I keep getting a message: "The drawing file being opened was not cerated by an Education Version of AutoCAD. Start up of AutoCAD hasn't been successful at this point. I have also just last night installed AutoCAD 2010 on his MacBook Pro and installation went quickly and easily. I have also updated his MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard (10.6) just this week. One person accidentally discovered that one setting in the Administrative control panels had to be changed and the service pack updates installed quickly and easily for me. Finally I found a discussion group that had the same problems updating Vista's service packs. Not being a PC users normally, this was a big deal to install even with MS on-line tech support.

Vista needed Service Packs 1 and 2 installed. We downloaded a free student copy of AutoCAD 2010 from Autodesk and attempted to install it. He had a 13-month licenses for AutoCAD 2009 which ran out in October. If you click on a word file on the Mac side and only have the Windows version of Word that could be launched automatically IF you set it up that way. For example I could click on a URL in Windows and Apple Safari browser could be launched automatically IF you so chose to have that response. You can also specify that certain applications (Mac or PC) will be launched if an appropriate application for the file type does not exist for it on the OS side you are currently working in. This is handy since you can minimize the amount of space allocated on your hard drive to Windows by using the Mac hard drive space for saving windows and mac files. You can mirror and use the Mac side desktop, pictures, downloads, documents, movies, music and any other Mac folder you chose. Movement between the Mac side and Windows side is easy and quick.

I have also heard that Parallels and Boot Camp also work well with AutoCAD on a Mac.īooting of Windows in Fusion was quick and painless and seemless. He got his assignments done and no problems.AutoCAD 2009 worked well using VMware Fusion. He is a student at Pratt and he used AutoCAD 2009 on a MacBook Pro (pre-aluminum model - 2.5Ghz, 4Gb RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo running Mac OS 10.5.x Leopard) running VMware Fusion 2.0 and Microsoft Vista (without service pack 1 or 2 - he just never installed these).
